Raya Stefanova is a Bulgarian designer educated in the Netherlands. She began her independent design practice after receiving a BA from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2014. In her work she explores diversity of topics reflecting on current issues in a larger context of people, culture, science, education, environment, and so on. Her pieces demonstrate both materiality and experimentation backed up with a thorough research and often the meaning prevails over the function.
Raya is currently the artistic director of ONE DESIGN WEEK an international festival of contemporary design in Plovdiv. Her biggest challenge in this position is to identify and understand the themes that are really relevant to society today by making interdisciplinary links, reacting to the rapid evolution of design in general.
